Designed in collaboration with Proximus, the V7c consumes 20%-40% less power and uses 20% less plastics than its predecessor

AMSTERDAM – September 13, 2024 – Vantiva (Euronext Paris: VANTI), a global technology leader enabling Network Service Providers (NSPs) to connect consumers worldwide, today announced that it has won the CSI Magazine Award for “Best Sustainability Project or Initiative” for the V7c, an eco-friendly and sustainably built Android TV set-top box (STB). Designed with long-term partner Proximus, Belgium’s largest provider of television, broadband and mobile services, the V7c exemplifies excellence in green practices and has numerous technology enhancements, such as industry-first IPTV video multicast over Wi-Fi and boosted memory.

“Consumers are seeking out environmentally friendly customer premises equipment and network service providers that prioritize sustainability,” said Leopold Diouf, Senior Vice President of the Product Division at Vantiva. “The Proximus V7c shows what is possible when two companies unite with a long-term vision for sustainability and environmental stewardship. This STB consumes 20%-40% less power and uses 20% less plastics than its predecessor with all plastics being 100% post-consumer recycled. We are honored to receive this award and proud to share it with Proximus.”

Launched in March of this year, the 13cm-by-13cm IPTV/OTT enabled V7c STB is equipped with Wi-Fi 6. This new feature allows the device to be placed in more areas of the home as it is no longer tethered to an Ethernet cable. The new STB’s central processing unit utilizes a 16nm chip compared to a 28nm chip on the previous box—significantly lowering power consumption while enabling faster operating speed. The smaller size allows for 46% more products to be shipped per container, helping to further reduce emissions.

The combination of the reduced power consumption and the smaller size of the device allows both Proximus and Vantiva to lower their Scope 3 emissions (indirect emissions, such as the fuel used to ship products, the carbon impact from manufacturing of the device, or the electricity used by customers). The V7c’s recycled and reduced plastic composition will additionally aid Proximus in its mission to become a circular company by 2030. To date, Proximus has been able to refurbish more than 90% of its gateways and STBs. Using less plastics and refurbishing equipment will allow Proximus to approach its goal to reuse or recycle up to 90% of waste by 2025 and to reach zero waste by 2030.
